ScreenX Day is coming to Cineworld cinemas on July 6th. Celebrate ScreenX, the world’s first multi-projection theatre technology exclusively at Cineworld ScreenX cinemas nationwide. Find out more and see a visual demonstration in the following clip.
What better way to celebrate than with a screening of the triumphant blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick? Upon its release in 2022, the film cemented Tom Cruise's status as the king of the popcorn action movie, and the film's jaw-dropping action sequences and outsized emotion become all the more impressive when experienced in ScreenX.
Even better, you can revel in the film's sheer spectacle and excitement for just £4 per ticket.
If you haven't watched Top Gun: Maverick in ScreenX, or already have and want to go back again, here are five spectacular scenes that soar even higher when viewed in a 270-degree format.
1. The Darkstar test
Top Gun: Maverick hits the ground (skies?) running with a dramatic opening sequence that reiterates Maverick's daredevil bonafide. Against the orders of Ed Harris' severe commanding officer, he attempts to push the prototype hypersonic "Darkstar" beyond Mach 10. He doesn't make it but it's one hell of an effort, and one hell of an opening scene to a terrific blockbuster.
If you missed the movie in ScreenX in 2022, now is your chance to make amends. With 12 additional projectors broadcasting key sequences onto the sidewalls of the auditorium, you'll feel like you're hitting Mach Speed with Cruise's cocky naval officer.
2. Maverick dogfights with the cadets
We all know that Tom Cruise performs his own stunts, but for Top Gun: Maverick he got his fellow cast members to strap in and take to the skies as well. This sense of G-Force verisimilitude is what lifts Top Gun: Maverick above most of its contemporary blockbuster brethren, so don't resist the chance to amplify the experience in ScreenX.
With the cockpit sequences projected beyond your peripheral vision, it'll feel like you're there alongside Maverick and the cadets. It's all about the need for speed.
3. Maverick's test flight through the canyon
This is the film's mic drop moment when the singular Maverick proves to everyone that he's still the best in the business, even having been out of the aerial game for years. ScreenX promises to amplify the contours of this nail-biting scene as Maverick flies low and shifts into a vertical climb, all to simulate the climactic assault on a uranium enrichment plant.
The aerial shots will extend beyond your peripheral vision, so hold on tight as those 12 projectors come into their own and put you in the pilot's scene as Maverick works his magic.
4. Maverick flies the F/A-18E
ScreenX's signature 270-degree approach comes into its own during the nail-biting finale as the newly redeemed Maverick and his crew, including the truculent Rooster (Miles Teller), bring the fight to the enemy's door. ScreenX broadens the scope and expands the horizon in all its glory, from the mountains the team must circumnavigate to the enemy fighters they're compelled to outflank.
5. Hangman saves the day
Relive Glen Powell's star-making moment in all its ScreenX glory. Powell's memorably cocky character Hangman is a goof throughout the film but comes good during the final moment of bromantic heroism and solidarity. On a purely technical level, ScreenX can augment the movie's visual aspects but don't underestimate its emotional capabilities as the film's fist-pumping moments become all the more emotional.
