The 2025 Super Bowl has officially wrapped up, and as per tradition, it's unleashed a blitzkrieg of trailers for your viewing pleasure.
Scroll down to discover some theatrical highlights over the next few months.
1. Novocaine (released March 28th)
Companion star Jack Quaid cements his leading man status with this irreverent take on the superhero genre. Quaid plays an apparently ordinary guy called Nathan Caine who is numb to all forms of pain, which is handy when he has to rescue his girlfriend from a hostage situation. Expect outrageous, blackly comic laughs and inventive kills aplenty.
2. Thunderbolts* (released May 2nd)
Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe concludes with the introduction of the scrappiest Marvel squad yet. If you thought the Avengers barely held it together, wait until you meet the Thunderbolts, a ragtag mob of mercenaries and gone-rogue heroes comprising, among others, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).
3. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (released May 21st)
Do we really think this is The Final Reckoning? We hope not, because the action-packed Mission: Impossible series has kept us pinned to our seats for the best part of 30 years. This is largely due to star/producer's Tom Cruise remarkable commitment to his stuntwork, and returning writer/director Christopher McQuarrie is now promising another escalation in excitement. Something more tense than the train sequence in the barnstorming Dead Reckoning - Part I? Now we're really on tenterhooks with excitement.
4. Lilo & Stitch (released May 23rd)
We were first introduced to lonely Hawaiian girl Lilo and her dog-like alien companion Stitch in 2002. The original Disney film was a hand-drawn animation, one of the studio's last, buoyed by colour, energy and an Elvis-infused soundtrack. Now, the property has been translated into live-action with director Dean Fleischer Camp (helmer of the acclaimed Marcel the Shell with Shoes On) steering the action.
5. How to Train Your Dragon (released June 13th)
Lilo & Stitch isn't the only animated property to get the flesh and blood treatment in 2025. The stirring DreamWorks hit How to Train Your Dragon (2010) now goes live-action with original director Dean DeBlois at the helm and the original design of the endearing dragon Toothless preserved. Mason Thames (The Black Phone) portrays the plucky Viking kid Hiccup who bonds with the creature and helps mitigate the dragon-hating attitude of his tribe (led by King Stoick, a role reprised by Gerard Butler in live-action form).
6. F1 (released June 27th)
Brad Pitt puts his foot to the floor as a washed-up Formula One racer in this all-action racing epic, which comes from the Top Gun: Maverick crew of director Joseph Kosinski, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and screenwriter Ehren Kruger. Can F1 do for motor racing what Top Gun did for jets? There's no denying the film's pedigree or its commitment to authenticity: the film was shot on location at the bastion of British motor racing, Silverstone, and even roped in the assistance of the multi-title-winning Lewis Hamilton.
7. Jurassic World Rebirth (released July 2nd)
The full trailer for Gareth Edwards' Jurassic World Rebirth went live on February 5th but here's a little TV spot that accentuates some of the more memorable beats. Scarlett Johansson tops the cast as Zora, the all-action hero who leads Jonathan Bailey's scientist and Mahershala Ali's mercenary on a journey to the DNA-developing site of the original Jurassic Park. That's how it starts, and inevitably there will be running and screaming as a deadly new hybrid rears its toothy head...
8. Superman (released July 11th)
Less of a trailer and more of a special message, Superman writer-director was joined by his dog, Ozu, for a special message during Puppy Bowl XXI on Animal Planet on Sunday. Fitting given the movie's emphasis on the super-dog Krypto and his relationship with Superman (David Corenswet).
9. Smurfs (released July 18th)
The blue guys are back in action as Smurfette (Rihanna) guides the Smurfs on a rescue mission to find Papa Smurf (John Goodman) after he’s been kidnapped. Smurfs also showcases the voices of Hannah Waddingham, Kurt Russell, Natasha Lyonne, Dan Levy, Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter and Xolo Maridueña.
