New Bond film finally has a licence to get going

Four years after Daniel Craig (above) signed off as the world's most famous MI6 agent in No Time To Die, we finally have some concrete news about the next movie in the franchise. No, there's no release date or announcement about who's taking over the role of James Bond, but Amazon MGM did reveal at CinemaCon that the ball is rolling on a new film.

Speaking about producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, Courtenay Valenti, head of Film, Streaming & Theatrical, told the audience: “We are committed to honouring the legacy of this iconic character while bringing a fresh, exhilarating new chapter to audiences around the world alongside Amy and David. “They are both in London getting started and couldn’t be here tonight, but we wanted to thank them for what we know will be an incredible partnership. Thank you, Amy and David!”

The new movie, when it finally lands, will be the 26th official instalment in the famous series. Following Craig's departure, rumours about his replacement have been rife, with James Norton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Idris Elba and Henry Cavill among the names mentioned.

Lionsgate announces new Hunger Games prequel

The release of a new Hunger Games novel in March was always going to mean a  movie adaptation would follow in due course – and so it's turned out to be. Lionsgate used its CinemaCon presentation to announce that The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will hit cinemas in November 2026, three years after prequel film The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes came out. To be directed by Francis Lawrence (who helmed all but the very first movie), Sunrise on the Reaping will also be a prequel, set in the period between Songbirds & Snakes and the original Hunger Games trilogy.

Remarkably, Lionsgate have already conjured up a teaser clip for the forthcoming release, which you can watch below.

Wicked: For Good trailer shown at CinemaCon

The first Wicked film, released last year, went down a storm with critics and movie fans alike – so no wonder those in attendance at Universal's CinemaCon presentation were excited to see a teaser clip for the follow-up film, Wicked: For Good (in Cineworld cinemas from 21 November).

With stars of both movies, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, taking to the stage in full costume, the trailer was shown to a packed audience – and the response was pretty rapturous. The second film will see Elphaba labelled an enemy of the state by the Wizard (played by Jeff Goldblum), but it appears from the clip that Glinda (Erivo) will maintain an unshakeable bond with her old school friend. In one scene, Elphaba is seen telling Glinda, "You’re the only friend I’ve ever had, prompting the Good Witch to reply, “I’ve had so many friends, but you’re the only one that mattered.”

The trailer hasn't yet been released to the public, but we'll publish it on this blog as soon as it becomes available.

Three new John Wick movies on the way

Lionsgate took to the stand on Tuesday, and it didn't take long for them to set tongues wagging with news of THREE new John Wick movies: John Wick 5, an animated prequel and a spin-off film centred around Caine, the character played by Donnie Yen in John Wick 4.

Speaking about the animated prequel – which will be directed by Shannon Tindle (The Emoji Movie) and see the iconic hitman trying to complete the Impossible Task of killing all his enemies in one night – Lionsgate boss Adam Fogelson said: "In both animation and the world of John Wick, the possibilities are endless. And there is no John Wick story fans are clamouring for more than the Impossible Task. Shannon’s take on that story is an incredible one, and we are beyond excited to see what John Wick can do in animation.”

None of the new movies were given a release date – however, fans of the franchise don't have long to get their fix, as another spin-off movie, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, is arriving at Cineworld on June 6th of this year.

Fourth Spider-Man movie set for 2026 release

During Sony's presentation at CinemaCon, it was announced that a new Spider-Man movie is on its way – and it has a name. The fourth film in the Marvel franchise is due to come out on July 31st 2026, and will be called Spider-Man: Brand New Day. By the sound of it, that title alludes to the fact that the new movie  represents a new beginning for the web-slinging hero. As Tom Holland said in a pre-recorded message: "I know we left you with a massive cliff hanger at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, so Spider Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say."

And a new Spider-Verse film set to swing by in 2027

The first piece of news concerns a certain web-spinning superhero. Yes, during its CinemaCon presentation, Sony revealed that the final film in the Spider-Verse series has been earmarked for a June 4th 2027 release. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally meant to land in 2024, but, speaking at the Las Vegas showcase, producer Phil Lord and co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K Thompson, claimed that there's a good reason for the delay. “We decided we needed to take the time to make sure we got it just right,” Variety reported them as saying.

Sharing a trailer with the assembled throng, Lord revealed that this third movie in the Spider-Verse franchise will be "a massive finale to the trilogy” as Miles Morales, now exiled from the multiverse, makes a desperate attempt to return.

“We are prepping this movie especially for your large format screens,” Lord  teased. “It looks insane.”

It's two years since the release of the second film in the series, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with the first instalment, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, coming out in 2018.

Actors revealed for Sam Mendes Beatles quadrilogy

Sam Mendes is making not one, not two, not three, but FOUR movies about The Beatles, with each movie focusing on a specific member of the Fab Four. Appearing at CinemaCon, the Skyfall director revealed that all four films will be released on the same day in April 2028, before uncovering the actors chosen to play the Fab Four. They are (pictured above from left to right): Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Joseph Quinn (George Harrison), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr) and Harris Dickinson (John Lennon). Joining Mendes at the Las Vegas event, Sony boss Tom Rothman described the new films as "the first binge-able theatrical experience".
