It's exactly what we all need during this time of stringent, nationwide lockdowns. This week, we're introducing Alan Bennett's The Madness of King George III, including all the details of where you can stream it.

What is the story of The Madness of King George III?

Alan Bennett's celebrated production dramatises a bizarre moment in British royal history. Reigning 18th-century monarch King George III is suffering from interludes of mania and erratic behaviour, and with the British Parliament on a knife's edge, drastic medical intervention is needed.

The League of Gentlemen's Mark Gatiss steps into the role made famous by Nigel Hawthorne in the original stage play and 1994 film adaptation. This amusing and moving production comes from the Nottingham Playhouse, and co-stars Gavin and Stacey's Adrian Scarborough as the doctor forced to break down the divide between the role of King and patient.

How was The Madness of King George III received?

The Guardian lauded Gatiss' performance as a "tour de force" and praised the technical aspects of the production as "striking".

How long is The Madness of King George III available to stream for?

It is available to stream for one week from Thursday the 11th of June.
